Fleeing from Sexual Immorality in this Sexual world

I was thinking to myself one day about sexual immorality and how difficult it is to be pure in this sexual world. I was not sure if this was a blog that I should write, so I made a poll on Twitter. The end results blew my mind, and I realized this is something people wanted / needed to hear. This will probably be one of my longer blogs, but here we go…

“Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body.” (1 Corinthians 6:18 NLT)

The reality is that as we live in this world where temptation for sexual sin will always be there. We will never live in a place without that temptation until we get to Heaven. So until then we have to learn and know how to flee from it when it comes our way. Because if you are not searching for it, it will come and search for you. I know that sounds weird but it is true. Look at all the sexual and lustful ads, trailers for movies, Twitter posts, and Instagram photos that you see daily without even searching for.

Like that verse says we need to RUN from sexual sin. When you are running from something you try to get as far away from it as you possibly can, you don’t jog besides it and entertain it. You may ask, “Bailey, how can I run from it if it is everywhere?”

That is an excellent question and the answer is honestly a lot simpler than you may think, but living out the answer is the hard part.

Running from it will only last you so long until you get tired and it catches up to you. So before it catches up to you, set up a plan to protect yourself from it. This may include and is not limited to: unfollowing certain people, not watching certain movies or T.V. shows, and surrounding yourself with people that will hold you accountable.

“Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts.” (2 Timothy 2:22 NLT)

Run from and avoid anything that may tempt you. If that means deleting an app, or not watching certain movies then do it! Better to live a pure/ holy life without something that doesn’t matter than to live a unholy with something that doesn’t matter. Your purity is worth more than the likes you get. Don’t let being scared of being left out from the meaningless things of this world be what stops you from being apart of what truly matters.

Do whatever it takes to run from sexual immorality. Don’t entertain it. Say “no”. Sexual immorality can be avoided, you just have to truly want to run from it. Once you desire what God desires and desires for you, your desires will change.

I know that running from sexual immorality will not be easy, but it will be worth it. For we are created to live Holy lives and glorify Him. So let us run from sexual immorality together and live holy lives with one another as we reflect His light.

Remember:

God’s will is for you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin. (1 Thessalonians 4:3 NLT)
